Volunteers founded Culmore Clinic in 2007 and to this day it is still significantly volunteer run. Each month we like to spotlight one of the volunteers that ensures Culmore Clinic continues to provide quality, culturally sensitive healthcare at little to no cost to our uninsured patients.

This month we are spotlighting Monica Traverse, one of our all-star Volunteer Interpreters!

Monica came to us as a trained Medical Interpreter a few years ago and has been a loyal and staunch interpreter since then, and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Her mother, Fabiola, originally from Ecuador, also volunteered with us as an interpreter prior to the pandemic. The daughter of a Foreign Service Officer, Monica grew up around the world attending international schools. She now resides in Falls Church with her husband, daughter and two dogs, managing soccer teams, family functions and tending to her garden…that is, when she’s not volunteering at Culmore Clinic, of course!

Interpreters often work more shifts than other volunteers at The Clinic for the simple reason that medically trained interpreters who are willing to work in a volunteer capacity are in extremely short supply. Culmore Clinic and its patients are truly privileged to have such dedication from our core Interpreting Team.

About Monica, our Manager of Interpreter Services, Caroline Hillkirk says,

Monica is energetic and always upbeat. She is a delight to work with and is a vitally important member of our core Interpreting Team!

Thank you so very much for all that you do for Culmore Clinic and our patients, Monica!
