Volunteer Spotlight: DR. DEAN POLLOCK, RESIDENT CARDIOLOGIST

Volunteers founded Culmore Clinic in 2007 and to this day it is still significantly volunteer run. Regularly we like to spotlight one of the volunteers that ensures Culmore Clinic continues to provide quality, culturally sensitive healthcare at little to no cost to our uninsured patients.

For Heart Health Month, we are spotlighting Dr. Dean Pollock, our resident Cardiologist.

It seems that it was meant to be that Dr. Dean Pollock, our resident Cardiologist, became a Culmore Clinic volunteer.

Dr. Pollock first realized he wanted to pursue medicine when began his career working at an affordable healthcare clinic in Tucson, Arizona. He went on to serve many positions at Virginia Heart over a nearly 40 year tenure, including Medical Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab and Chief of Cardiology at Loudoun Hospital. In that role he conducted emergency and elective intervention surgery on thousands of patients suffering from heart disease. Dr. Pollock retired in 2022 and now feels as though he has come full circle, returning to the type of work he started out doing at the beginning of his career.

Dr. Pollock has two children with his wife of over 40 years. His children, both grown, live in the area with children of their own. Dr. Pollock loves spending time with his grandchildren, exercising, and playing golf when he’s not volunteering with Culmore Clinic.

And, lucky for us, he likes to attend musical concerts as well, which is how he found out about Culmore Clinic in the first place. Our Co-Founder Terry Lavoie and he bumped into each other at a concert last summer. It just so happened that Dr. Pollock was looking for a volunteer position with a clinic just like ours, and when Terry mentioned we needed a Cardiologist, it felt like it was destined to be.

In his new position at Culmore Clinic, Dr. Pollack comes for a full-day once a month to see patients. Dr. Pollock works closely alongside Sara Steward, DNP, FNP-BC, who manages the Electronic Medical Records as Dr. Pollock interacts with patients. So far, Dr. Pollock has been able to provide incredible care for our patients, many of which have not been able to treat their heart disease effectively due to barriers in the medical system. But thanks to Dr. Pollock, Sara, and the use of our donated EKG machine (from our Clinical Director Maria Obeid, DNP, AGNP-BC, RN), our patients are getting the treatment they need and deserve.

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you for all that you do for Culmore Clinic and our patients, Dr. Pollock. We’re so glad you are volunteering with us!
