Culmore Clinic announces $2 Million ‘A Home for Healing’ Capital Campaign
For immediate release – For nearly two decades, Culmore Clinic has increasingly earned the trust of the community and remains the only independent nonprofit healthcare clinic serving low-income, uninsured adults across Bailey’s Crossroads and Seven Corners providing quality medical care at no cost. Culmore Clinic has relied on borrowed space for its clinic operations since its founding and long envisioned what a permanent location might look like. This vision is becoming a reality through a partnership with Wesley Housing Development Corporation.
Wesley Housing is preparing to expand its affordable housing portfolio and has invited Culmore Clinic to become the ground-floor tenant in their soon-to-be-built senior housing project, Kindred Crossing. With nearly 5,000 square feet of dedicated space, Culmore Clinic will have the opportunity to build it’s first permanent clinic home in the geographic area of the patients that we serve. This gift of space will allow Culmore Clinic to expand care for our most vulnerable uninsured neighbors and to further our mission to advance health by bringing the community together.
“Wesley Housing’s generous commitment of space within their new Kindred Crossing residential building is a gift that will change lives in our community. This donation will allow Culmore Clinic to expand services for adult patients who have no access to health insurance and lack the financial resources for self-pay care, We are deeply grateful for Wesley Housing’s partnership and their belief that good health begins at home.”
Lynette Sappe-Watkins, Executive Director of Culmore Clinic
Today, leadership announced that the organization is entering the homestretch of a monumental $2 million capital campaign aimed at funding and establishing its first permanent, medical home.
Culmore Clinic is pleased to share that two early investments of $100,000 from St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (Arlington) and $500,000 from The J.O.Y. Charitable Fund helped launch our A Home for Healing Capital Campaign. These generous donors stepped in early in hopes their gifts would inspire others to get involved during the first phase of the campaign. Early enthusiasm for Culmore Clinic’s A Home for Healing Capital Campaign has blessed us in securing over $1.9 million in campaign pledges to date.
“Culmore Clinic has been a lifeline for uninsured Virginians who might otherwise go without care,” said Sen. Warner. “I was proud to secure $550,000 in federal funding to help build a permanent home for the clinic in Fairfax County, expanding access to health care and reaching more patients in need. Every Virginian deserves access to quality care, and this investment, alongside strong local partnerships, will help make that a reality.”
U.S. Senator Mark R. Warner (VA)
Philip Eliot and Andrew Merrow, who are serving as the A Home for Healing campaign Co-Chairs, have asked for the community’s support to help by providing the remaining $36,000 still needed to end the campaign successfully. “Permanent buildings, whether cathedrals or clinics, are signs of hope not only for the people they serve but also the larger community in which they live,” said Father Andrew Merrow. “A building that blends space both for seniors and for faithful healthcare in the larger community is a vision I’m grateful to be a part of.”
“The need for safety-net care in our community is evident. Having a permanent home not only provides stability, it also sets us on a path for a new season of growth and health impact, said Philip Eliot, President of the Culmore Clinic Board of Directors and campaign co-chair. “True to our roots, we are making strides towards our goal and are welcoming the community to invest in our permanent home.
We are going public today to raise the remaining funds necessary and need the help of our community. To make a donation to the A Home for Healing campaign, learn more about the campaign, or to view architectural renderings: www.culmoreclinic.org/ahomeforhealing or contact the development office at 571-380-4163.
Culmore Clinic aims to fund the building renovation and occupy the new space for years to come. Once complete, this permanent home will allow Culmore Clinic to expand care for our most vulnerable uninsured neighbors in Fairfax County.
Our new home for healing would not be possible without the support of our Campaign Steering Committee.
