Gynecology Care, Now In-House
We’re so pleased to welcome Kanwal Khan, MD, an obstetrician-gynecologist, to the Culmore Clinic team. Dr. Khan will see patients offering gynecological care. Until now, many of our patients needing gynecologic care had to be referred out, which often meant long waits or no care at all. Having Dr. Khan on site means women can get that care where they already get their primary care. We sat down with Dr. Khan to learn more about her and her excitement for this new initiative.
What attracted you to practicing at Culmore Clinic?
I was drawn to Culmore Clinic’s mission of providing accessible, compassionate healthcare to underserved communities. I value the opportunity to use my experience in women’s health to help patients who may otherwise face barriers to receiving care.
2. The Clinic’s mission is to advance health by bringing the community together to provide medical care and health education at no cost to uninsured neighbors in Fairfax County. How does your past experience connect with that mission?
Throughout my career in obstetrics and gynecology, I have seen how important access to quality healthcare and education is to a woman’s overall well-being. I believe every woman deserves compassionate, respectful care regardless of her financial circumstances, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this mission.
3. Has anything surprised you during your first month at The Clinic?
I have been impressed by the dedication and collaboration of the staff and volunteers. It is encouraging to see how a community can come together to provide meaningful care and make patients feel supported and valued.
4. What difference can it make for patients to receive gynecologic care where they already receive their primary care?
Having gynecologic care available alongside primary care makes healthcare more convenient, accessible, and coordinated. It can help patients feel more comfortable seeking preventive screenings, discussing sensitive concerns, and receiving timely care without the added burden of navigating multiple healthcare facilities.
